I’d like to use this opportunity to thank @dayus4heaven for this great opportunity to share my thoughts on this topic. #BreakingBarriers

According to english writer, Samuel Johnson, people need to reminded more than they need to be instructed. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

I’d like to ask you a very simple question. What is holding you back from breaking barriers?

My assignment this evening is to talk about Thinking Outside the Box. Let’s get started! #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

Generally when people talk about Thinking Outside the Box,they mean thinking in an original or creative way. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

Thinking outside the box is not a new concept. Humans have been doing it for a long time. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

The better you become at developing an idea, the better you become at thinking outside the box. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

Learn to build a thought – Everyone gets ideas. How can you make yours special and attractive? #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

Execute your plan…there’s nothing worse than an idea not executed. if you plan it, execute it. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

Think Differently….whenever an idea/situation comes up to you. Please ask yourself these questions: #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

a. How can I make this idea better or faster?

b. How can I make this idea attractive

#BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

c. How can I solve this problem?

d. How can I make money/value from this? #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

I do hope my thoughts can get you going in the right direction. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

I wish you good luck in your endeavours. Thanks. #BreakingBarriers @dayus4heaven

The subject of the mind is so critical to the success of our lives. It has a way of influencing practically all areas of our lives.  It can affect our career, marriage, business, relationships and wellbeing. The outcome could either be positive or negative.

I realised that your thinking pattern has a direct relationship to your life pattern. You cannot grow bigger than your mind can comprehend. How far your mind travels will determine how far you will physically go In life. The problems in our lives exist to the degree of our ignorance. Someone once said that there is no mountain anywhere. He said each person’s mountain is his or her own ignorance.  The extent to which your mind comprehends is the extent to which you will conquer in life.

Mental limitation is an internal affair. It is internally programmed. The programming of the mind is majorly from past experiences. These experiences border on culture, personality type, exposure and upbringing. When you therefore see someone behaves in a certain way, you might want to take a critical look at these indices responsible for programming the mind.  The state of this programmed mind will either put a cap or unleash your potential. Whatever is that area of limitation, sit down, assess and take on the new approach it requires.

You can break free from mental limitations. You might be wondering; how can i break free?  I want to give the following steps that will help you break free from such limitations.

Appraise your life. What is prevalent in your life at the moment? How did these traits got into you? Is it normal to be there? Your responses will put a responsibility on you to decide what is next to do. The quality of your life cannot be better than the quality of your thinking. You are literarily what you think.

Appraise your friends. The quality of people closest to you paints a picture of the quality of life you are going to live.  Someone once said that; “show me your friend and I will tell you what your future will look like.”

Appraise the culture of the environment you grew from. Culture has a way of having your future for lunch IF you are not careful. The best the culture has to offer is the best you will ever be. This implies that you might not fit into the global scheme of things if you are mainly driven by culture.

This is because your world view will be coloured, and your interpretations narrowed. You have to come to terms that there is more to life that you can physically comprehend within one cultural location. There is an adage from a particular culture that stated that;  “Let us do it the way it has always been done so that we can get the same result.” Two, three and four decades after. The proverb is still been passed from one generation to another.  Your guess is as good as mine about what becomes the future of such a community or nation. There is a high tendency that the people who imbibe such culture will make backward motion when the world is making forward motion.
Appraise your background influences/experiences.  Your past has a way of impacting your present. The experiences of your life or business today might not be the reality of your life. Do not judge yourself with your current circumstances. You can break free from limitations when you take it off your mind. When you take limits off, it will lift your life to unimaginable heights. To be successful in life, you have to be in control of your mind.
Get to know the one who created you and the purpose He has for you.

Read books that positively reinforce your value. e.g the Bible and other inspiring  and mind shifting books.

Change your association. Do not hang around people who will run down your worth.

Keep speaking to your life and maintain the picture of a preferable future.

Action. Take steps to becoming who you desire to be.

1. @dayus4heaven| Thank you for that warm intro. So let’s talk leadership! For context, I want to focus on SELF-LEADERSHIP #BreakingBarriers
 2. @dayus4heaven| Often, issue of leadership seem 2 connote a designated a few, today we look at it as a universal concept #BreakingBarriers

3. What’s self-leadership?How does one lead oneself? What are attributes of leaders?Does it relate to citizens as leaders? #BreakingBarriers

4. Specifically, why is SELF-Leadership so critical at this point in our national dev? Let’s pre-frame this with 2 quotes #BreakingBarriers

5. “Adjustment to a deformed society creates deformed individuals.”~Arthur Koestler Basically, we have a choice about this #BreakingBarriers

6. Achebe: “The trouble with Nigeria is simply & squarely a failure of leadership.” But what if the leaders NEVER change? #BreakingBarriers

7. From these two quotes, there’s a juxtaposition which puts the citizen @ the core of meaningful change when leaders fail #BreakingBarriers

8. So if citizens have to occupy a new construct in the chasm of leadership failure, how do they practice self-leadership? #BreakingBarriers

9. Self-leadership entails a series of intertwined attributes, traits that every citizen must live by to co-create change #BreakingBarriers

10. Again, Achebe -“The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of its leaders to rise to the RESPONSIBILITY,..”#BreakingBarriers

11.Key concepts to focus on today are – RESPONSIBILITY, EXEMPLARY INTEGRITY, INTELLIGENCE, COMMITMENT, DISRUPTIVE change #BreakingBarriers

12. RESPONSIBILITY as a function Self-Leadership=we do not just point fingers @ leaders, but also look at our (in)actions #BreakingBarriers

13. How exactly are leaders responsible 4 our failure? And more importantly, how’re citizens responsible 4 allowing this? #BreakingBarriers

14. RESPONSIBILITY as a function Self-Leadership=we do not just point fingers @ leaders, but also look at our (in)actions #BreakingBarriers

15. Next logical level becomes- what exactly’s the leadership-citizen contract? Who is responsible for what, at all tiers? #BreakingBarriers

16. The unwritten twins surrounding RESPONSIBILITY are CHOICE & CONSEQUENCE. Are citizens willing to enforce consequences? #BreakingBarriers

17. Citizen-Responsibility =2 get new outcomes they must create consequences & implement them if leaders make poor choices #BreakingBarriers

18. RESPONSIBILITY then becomes a dual frame for both leaders & citizens -are citizens ORGANIZED to mete out consequences? #BreakingBarriers

19. Understanding that without consequences status quo continues, means citizens need to channel their fight with cohesion #BreakingBarriers

20. A need to revisit/strengthen accountability tools citizens use to hold leaders to task. We make it OUR responsibility #BreakingBarriers

21. B. EXEMPLARY INTELLIGENCE – Beyond certificate scandal, let’s look at a need for intelligence in both leaders/citizens #BreakingBarriers

22. A huge gaps in our political system is education. It reflects in the work ethics-standards of leaders & even citizens #BreakingBarriers

23. To ‘fix’ intelligence/education gaps of leaders, let’s start with a bottom-up approach; how are most leaders educated? #BreakingBarriers

24. Specifically, a need to re-base intelligence beyond IQ & include key EQ components. Emotional intelligence is LACKING #BreakingBarriers

25. A need to make the key attributes (IQ/EQ) INGRAINED in BOTH leaders/citizens. Of the 2 EQ is more needed in our nation #BreakingBarriers

26. The most practical, bottom-up & effective way to include EQ in our national fabric is through QUALITY public education #BreakingBarriers

27. Since we’ve agreed 2 premise of leadership failure, it means citizen-led ADVOCACY re PUBLIC EDUCATION reforms =A must! #BreakingBarriers

28. Self-Leadership in context of EQ means each citizen takes RESPONSIBILITY 4 equipping themselves with skills/paying fwd #BreakingBarriers

29. Our leaders CANNOT give what they do not have; some skills like EQ are better embedded in formative years (0 to 17). #BreakingBarriers

30. Public Education reforms MUST be led by citizens to be effective. Our current crop of leaders evidently lack capacity #BreakingBarriers

31. Core of education reforms revolves around teacher training. To teach millions EQ, great path’s to train teachers on it #BreakingBarriers

32. Leadership/Citizenry without EQ is deficit. Governance should balance both head space & be heart-centric to thrive.. #BreakingBarriers

33. Are you/citizens, willing 2 take on commitment of equipping ourselves & our spheres of influence with Domains of EQ? #BreakingBarriers

34. These are key domains of Emotional Intelligence

a)  Self-Awareness

b)  Self-Regulation

c)  Self-Motivation

 d)  Empathy

e)   Respect for all  #BreakingBarriers

35. C. INTEGRITY – One of my favourite topics. Without integrity/trust the leaders – citizens social contract breaks down. #BreakingBarriers

36. A lot of leaders past/present’ve shown to  be without integrity; saying one thing & doing another. But what of citizens? #BreakingBarriers

37. We’ve a deformed society. We’ve leadership failure. How do citizens DISRUPT this trajectory? It starts with integrity #BreakingBarriers

38. Self-Leadership posits that without personal INTEGRITY it is difficult 4 citizens to hold others (leaders) accountable #BreakingBarriers

39. Are citizens ready 4 an honest conversation on their personal STANDARDS of INTEGRITY & INTEGRITY GAPS w/out blaming? #BREAKINGBarriers

40. Our society is how it is cos most citizens/leaders has an integrity gap or lack of clarity of their standards/values #BreakingBarriers

41. We cannot talk about INTEGRITY without talking about our personal v\Aalues, which morphs into a societal value construct #BreakingBarriers

42. What’re your Personal Values?- Your core principles / standards of behavior; judgment of what is important in ur life? #BreakingBarriers

43. Stark reality is our society gives a damning result of our collective values – for life, equality, education, hygiene #BreakingBarriers

44. So using the SELF-LEADERSHIP paradigm, our values’re calibrated not by what we say but by what we do & who’re we BEING #BreakingBarriers

45. So the question citizens (who we’ve defined to be leaders too), should ask is- what are my true HIERARCHIES of VALUES? #BreakingBarriers

46. We are where we are -failure of leadership & DIS-EMPOWERED citizens because of an AMBIGUITY about our value construct #BreakingBarriers

47. Thus real conversation around change, transformation, leadership’s really about RE-DEFINING our hierarchies of values #BreakingBarriers

48. Without CLARITY about our hierarchies of personal values, we cannot have common national values=Stagnation/No progress #BreakingBarriers

49. E.g Do we truly VALUE life?| What is value of a Nigerian life?| Do we value quality education?| For All or for some? #BreakingBarriers

50. Self-Leadership means each citizen’s willing 2 radically commit 2 shifting their thinking and actioning 4 new outcomes #BreakingBarriers

51. Without this shift from pyramid’s base, rot cannot be reversed. There’s more power at the base, we need to grasp this! #BreakingBarriers

52. Critical mass starts with ONE which then forms a chain; if we are ambiguous about your values, this chain breaks off.. #BreakingBarriers

53.  Are citizens willing 2 DISRUPT their normalized hell for an unknown new order which is certainly better? It’s behavioural #BreakingBarriers

54. E COMMITMENT- Are we willing to make the commitment?Revisit long held values/beliefs on nationhood, tribe, meritocracy?#BreakingBarriers

55. Citizen-Commitment means we’re willing/ready/able 2 use all our resources in pursuit of a new order which reflects us. #BreakingBarriers

56. “PROGRESS is not created by contented people.” ~ Frank Tyger Are citizens HUNGRY and DISCONTENTED enough to fight?? #BreakingBarriers

57. The real conversation of self-leadership is an honest reflection about what/who we are at our core – blamers or doers? #BreakingBarriers

58. A radical OVERHAUL of PUBLIC Education’s most effective path 2 transform our value construct/progress. Who leads this? #BreakingBarriers

59. Each of us has a unique role to play in the dysfunction of our society; each of us also has a role in its +ve reform. #BreakingBarriers

60.  The myth of the citizens as ‘dis-empowered’ is a fallacy. No victims here – now, both leaders/citizens fuel the rot #BreakingBarriers

61. What we ALLOW as a society persists. Leaders abuse us cos we COLLECTIVELY gave away our powers. Ready to take it back? #BreakingBarriers

62. @dayus4heaven|#BreakingBarriers Thank u so much for having me on today’s tweet chat. Let’s become EMPOWERED citizens, re-write our narrative
